It’s just my blog, nothing special

What I’ve learnt so far……….

Filed under: Screen It CST/IST, Uncategorized — ddizon1 at 12:32 am on Thursday, September 4, 2008

Currently I am engaging in a project entitled “Screen It”. From completing tutorials I learnt the basics of Adobe flash and includes;

• The workspace

• Motion tween

• Motion guide

• Shape tweening

•Timeline effects

• Cloud animation

• Making the walk cycle.

The project also requires a storyboard accompanying our flash animation. After being addressed on the scaffold of a storyboard I have successively understood how to properly construct a storyboard. After responding to the theme of ‘Australian Identity”, I’ve learnt Jonothan’s interpretation and my interpretation of an;

• Australian today

• Australian in the past

• Australian in the present.

The most rapidly growing area and possibly the fascinating in the computer industry is graphics and animation. – entry document.

Colliding plates Conclusion

Filed under: Science — ddizon1 at 3:51 pm on Sunday, August 31, 2008

Therefore from modelling and analysing the collision of plates, it is deducible that when two plates collide something forms. For instance when two continental plates collide, it generally forms a mountain. Whilst when two oceanic plates collide, it purely creates a volcano or island. Whereas when a continental and oceanic plate collides, usually a earthquake forms. Therfore this is what I discovered from completing the practical.

The aim was To model the mid-ocean spreading of tectonic plates. From the conclusion of this practical and reproducing a model of separating plates I successively gained knowledge regarding geological processes undergone, just from Interpreting the model. In result of this model, I visually observed the processes involved when plates are spreading at the mid-ocean ridges. For instance the formation of rock.

Convection Currents Conclusion

Filed under: Science — ddizon1 at 12:50 am on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

From this experiment, it is deducible that convection currents are known to move upwards in a circular motion. Testing and evaluating the experiment, we had presumed that this movement is caused by the hot air and hot liquid present. We had construed this by testing if convection currents could function under cold air and cold liquid. This is obviously did not work.

Journal: Dancing

Filed under: Ethics and the Media CST/IST — ddizon1 at 2:13 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

A unique youtube video was shown today. It was entitled “Dancing”. The approximately 4 minute clip says numerous things to me and is as follows;

  • The world has its many differences but its many similarities
  • Dancing embraces happiness, joy, togetherness and unification
  • Geographical issues like spatial inequalities, poverty etc. don’t affect one’s happiness as seen when the people in developing countries were dancing and full of joy.

I would ask a few basic questions regarding the clip.

· Why was it shown?

· Why were they dancing?

· What made them so happy?

· Why were many countries involved?

· What’s this got to do with the project?

· Do the media tie in with this video?

At this point I can honestly say I am confused on why the video was shown today. Sequentially I have come up with two main theories on why it was shown.

Theory 1:

Since were engaging in PBL, it may have been shown to express how working together happily can achieve outstanding results. This is evident in the video where it shows groups dancing together, suggesting that they may have accomplished something very significant.

Theory 2:

This is an ethical and moral representation by the media. The media doesn’t always imply issues are immoral and unethical but at occasions publish stuff of moral and ethical value.

I don’t whether they are correct but this was my opinion on the reason and motivation behind playing such a video in class.

Reflection Journal

1. Likes and dislikes of this project…..any suggestions on how to improve?

To be honest, the project was interesting because we weren’t just traditionally reading and answering questions from the text book. We were given the opportunity to apply our knowledge in designing a prototype of an optical instrument.

2. What areas do you think you have improved in from project 1 to project 4

I believe that I tremendously made a significant improvement in presenting. I also improved in using different software to edit media like photoshop and movie maker. I have also adapted to this style of learning, and at the moment am experiencing no such frustrations.

3. What further skills would you like to develop over the next few projects?

Fundamentally, I must improve on my work ethic and attitude towards completing work because I constantly find myself in the predicament where I am extremely laid back and lazy in the beginning of the project. However at the end of the project I usually am self-motivated and dedicated to complete the project.

  1. Analyse why red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual.

Red sunsets do not exist because of refraction but the effect of the scattering of light. Scattering of light is where molecules of gas and dust in the atmosphere alters the direction of light. Essentially at sunrise, sunlight passes through the atmosphere. Red or orange light mainly reaches us because the blue light (evident in the sky) is scattered. So to answer the question, if there are more molecules of gas or dust in the atmosphere, this means the blue light rays will be scattered even more and red or orange would be more impressive than usual.

  1. Describe what happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow and explain how you can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or secondary.

It is a known water droplets act like prisms when in the sky. The water droplets undergo the process of total internal reflection and hence in many cases colours of the spectrum are visible. A primary rainbow is best recognised as having red at the top and blue at the bottom. However a secondary rainbow also exists, and this can be differentiated by observing one main contrast and that is the colours will be reversed. (red at the bottom, blue at the top) Therefore, that is how you distinguish primary rainbows from secondary rainbows.

How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

From my preliminary research, it is deducible that the media portrays social justice and moral issues both unethically and ethically. For instance, I am preparing an episode concerning Madeline McCann’s disappearance, and it is quite obvious that the media has portrayed this issue unethically.

Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice/ moral issues why/why not?

In the commencement of the project, our group originally chose John Darwin’s fake canoe death. It came with much shock when finding articles that will contribute in making a mediawatch episode. In result of this, we essentially changed our issue to Madeline McCann’s disappearance. In succession it has been easy, and you could even say it was effortless in finding articles based on the issue.

Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

It is evident that the media predominately broadcasts shows from an immoral nature. During my preliminary research I reviewed the media watch episode concerning gang violence, although the media altered the story to make gang violence appear acceptable. It is apparent that the media works from moral framework, but in actuality they typically operate from an ethical framework rather than a moral framework. From reading this article I read from http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/08/13/MNUA129KF1.DTL it is apparent the media works from an ethical framework. The media portrays this story as one that goes against our ethics, an illegitimate and unlawful event and they had done this from analyzing their ethical framework.

In conclusion I believe that occasionally the media works from a moral framework, but frequently operates from an ethical framework.

nvestigate the two types of sight defect- long-sightedness and short sightedness.

Find the following information:

What causes the defect?

“Hyperopia: People who are farsighted can see clearly objects that are far away, but they have trouble seeing objects up close. Farsightedness occurs when your eye is too short lengthwise and does not bend light correctly. This causes an image to focus behind the retina instead of directly on it, so the image is blurry.” http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/farsightedness-hyperopia-topic-overview

“Myopia: Nearsightedness (myopia) is a common cause of blurred vision. If you are nearsighted, objects in the distance appear blurry and out of focus. Most nearsightedness is caused by a natural change in the shape of the eyeball that makes the eyeball oval (egg-shaped) rather than round. Less often, nearsightedness may be caused by a change in the cornea or the lens.” http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/nearsightedness-myopia-topic-overview

The symptoms displayed

“Hyperopia: Symptoms of farsightedness can include:

“Myopia: Symptoms include (for younger children);

  • Trouble seeing objects that are far away.
  • Trouble seeing the blackboard, television, or movie screen.
  • Reduced school or athletic performance.
  • Squints or frowns.
  • Holds books or objects very close to the face.
  • Sits at the front of a classroom or theater or close to the TV or computer.
  • Is not interested in sports or other activities that require good distance vision.
  • Gets headaches regularly.” http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/nearsightedness-myopia-symptoms

Propose what sort of lens may be used to correct each vision.

Convex lens is used to correct hyperopia (farsightedness) whereas concave lens are used to correct myopia (nearsightedness).

What influences your values about issues relating to your life?

The media definitely influences my values and ideologies about issues relating to my life. There are numerous examples that I can describe where media has influenced my values about certain issues that relate to my life but I would like to elaborate on one in particular. An issue that describes me is conforming to society, and the media has influenced me to believe that being like everyone else in the community is necessary and right in growing up which is in fact not true. We see people who often do not conform to society and we think that they are so different and usually are alone. Why is this? The media has influenced me to think so. This is just one issue that the media has influenced and describes my values towards conforming to society.

Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

Actually to be honest it is very rare for me to compare images/ values of the media to those of the bible. This is predominantly due to the fact I never compare anything to the bible unless asked to. For instance if an assignment told me to compare the portrayal of Jesus by the media and by the bible, I would do so. However if I wasn’t I wouldn’t compare images of values presented by the media to those of the bible.

presented by the media to those of the bible

Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

In reading my previous response, it is quite obvious that this project has challenged me, largely because I never before have really deeply examined and thought about my own values. So this project currently poses a huge challenge but if I undergo deep thinking I believe this challenge will eventually be prevailed.

Below Just conform be one of the norms… An image about one of this issues that the media has shaped my values on
